Silver dollar size "Ike" (Dwight D. Eisenhower) dollars were minted from 1971 to 1978. Although non-proof versions were minted for circulation at other mints, only the San Francisco United States government mint made the proofs. All proof Ike dollars have the "S" mint mark. During the first 4 years (and again in 1976) both "silver" (40% pure silver) and non-silver (clad) proofs were minted. The Ike dollars minted during 1975 have a 1976 date, but can be distinguished from those made in 1976 by the size of the lettering on the reverse. Hence there are none dated 1975 and two styles with 1976 dates (the US Bicentennial year). A complete set of proof Ike dollars contains 5 different silver coins and 6 clad coins. In 1979 the Eisenhower dollar design was replaced by the smaller size Susan B. Anthony dollar.
